Several of Monmouth County's public high schools
are among the highest rated in the state.
Most towns have their own school district and superintendent.
Matawan and Aberdeen have a combined district.
Atlantic Highlands and Highlands each have their own district,
but share Henry Hudson Regional High School.
Union Beach students attend Keyport High School.
In addition, there are several charter schools; that is,
public schools run independently of a district's other elementary
schools.
In Holmdel is the New School of Monmouth County, an ungraded
K-8 elementary school.
The private Oak Hill Academy in Lincroft and the Ranney
School in nearby Tinton Falls are highly rated.
Catholic high schools include Christian Brothers Academy in
Lincroft, Mater Dei High School in Middletown, and St. John Vianney
High School in Holmdel.
Monmouth County boasts three top-rated public vocational high
schools, proving that "vo-tech55 is no longer just about auto
mechanics and wood shop. The High Technology High School (located
at, but not affiliated with, Brookdale Community College) is ranked
second in the county, with its students boasting a combined SAT
score of 1589. The Academy of Allied Health and Science in Neptune
Township is ranked fifth, with a combined SAT score of 1205. The
Marine Academy of Science and Technology (M.A.S.T.) at Sandy Hook is
ranked ninth, with a combined SAT score of 1189.
The new Communications High School in Wall Township has yet
to be ranked. For those looking to pursue graduate and post-graduate
degrees, Monmouth County has two top-notch post-secondary schools.
West Long Branch is home to the private, four-year Monmouth
University (732-571-3477).
In Lincroft, Brookdale Community College (732-224-2000)
stands out among New Jersey's county colleges for the diversity of
on-campus undergraduate programs at its main campus and at outreach
centers including the Bayshore Learning Center in Keansburg.
Brookdale is leading the way in distance learning with the Coastal
Communiversity. Through partnering with several New Jersey
universities, students can work toward four-year degree and
post-graduate programs. Brookdale’s thriving department of Business
and Community Development offers hundreds of non-credit courses at
the Bayshore Learning Center and the main campus. Other services
include the Small Business Development Center (732-842-8685); SCORE,
the Service Corps of Retired Executives (732-224- 2573); the
Educational Exchange Center, offering teacher training workshops;
and the very popular Summer Youth Academic and Sports Camps.
Brookdale maintains outreach centers in Asbury Park, Freehold,
Keansburg, Long Branch, and the Ocean Institute at Sandy Hook.
Healthcare Services
Bayshore Community Health Services boasts a
225-bed facility located in Holmdel, New Jersey. It is easily accessible
from Routes 34,35 and the Garden State Parkway.
Beginning with fitness and wellness and continuing through acute
medical care and senior services, the Northern Monmouth area
provides a complete range of healthcare providers. These include the
many services of Bayshore Community Health Services and independent,
in-home and holistic practices such as Right at Home in Matawan. Medical
specialties at Bayshore Community Health Services (752-739-5900;
www.bchs.com) in Holmdel include
emergency, medical, surgical, diagnostic, mental health counseling,
cardiac catheterization, same-day-surgery, transitional care, and MRI
and laboratory services.
Also on the Bayshore Community Health Services campus are
Bayshore Health Care Center, a nursing home; The Willows at Holmdel, an
assisted living residence; Bayshore Mammography Center; Carrier-Bay
shore Counseling Center; Pleasant Valley Adult Day Center; The Vassar
Eye Center, and the Bayshore Wound Care Center. The medical center's
continuum of care extends into the community with the Bayshore Center
for Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy, Bayshore Diagnostic Center,
Bayshore Fitness and Wellness Center, and SleepCare Centers in Hazlet
and Freehold. The Bayshore family of organizations also includes a
primary care physician network throughout Monmouth and Middlesex
counties.
Adult day care is a growing segment of the human care industry in the
region. Attractive and home-like facilities such as Royal Senior Day
Care and We Care Adult Care offer peer activities daily in a
"home-away-from-home" atmosphere for elder family members not quite
ready to enter senior living facilities. An important part of wellness
is, of course, staying fit.
The Northern Monmouth area offers facilities, programs and
professionals that fit everybody, every schedule and every budget, from
health clubs such as WOW! Work Out World and FitCare Health & Fitness in
Middletown.
